Muskoka Place Gallery and Savour Muskoka announce
Call To Enter “Harvest Muskoka”

Do you eat? Do you art? Is your art good enough to eat?

Creating art feeds our souls. Creating food feeds our body. Muskoka does both. Agriculture and Art are essential to our existence. For the month of  September 2009 Muskoka Place Gallery and Savour Muskoka will host Harvest Muskoka. “Harvest Muskoka” will celebrate agriculture and food production in Muskoka featuring Muskoka inspired views of food production and crops unique to Muskoka.

Local agriculture in Muskoka means more than maple syrup and trout. The small farms of Muskoka are leaders in organic sustainable production for a variety of crops. All those farms are fodder for harvest imagery. All types of agriculture and food production, both cultivated crops and local native plant harvest. Thus everything from fish to mushrooms, blueberries to cranberries, horses, cattle, poultry, goats, sheep, cavies, and rabbits, garlic to gourds and wind, are welcome. Up to 25 works will be exhibited for the duration of “Harvest Muskoka”

Eligibility: Original fine art and fine craft works showing themes of agriculture and/or food production in any medium by artists resident in Ontario

• 2-dimensional works including paintings, drawings, mixed media, and hand-pulled prints (all pieces accepted must be ready to hang, and may not exceed 30” x 30" - including frame).
• 3-dimensional work including sculpture, or fine craft in glass, metal and wood. (maximum of 20 kg, and no longer than 15" in any direction)
• Works must have been created since 2006.
• Works may be offered for sale.
• Preference will be shown to works clearly depicting “Muskoka”.
• Works must be submitted to the jury on CD Images 300 dpi JPEG, maximum long measurement 900 dpi along with a CV, artist statement and SASE.

Three person jury. Jurors will score independently, add together for final total
Scores will be from 1-10, to rubric reflecting criteria shown above.
Criteria rubric and scores will be returned to all submissions.
The Highest total score work will receive free entry to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Fine Art Showcase Jury*
* No cash value, artist must submit independently for the2009 RAWF Fine Art Showcase by the September 30, 2009 deadline.

Deadline for submissions: July 30, 2009

Jury Fee: $25 for up to five works for consideration. Maximum two works will be accepted from any individual artist.

Red Leaves Muskoka announces
Call To Enter “Red Leaves Summer Photo Contest”

Red Leaves Muskoka is looking for great photographs that tell the Red Leaves four season story and capture the culture and natural heritage of the area.

Thus everything from water to wetlands, trails to snails and fish to foul, the sky is the limit.  Special category for youth.  (Please indicate age of youth on entry form)

Send us your best images and win.  Must be unenhanced digital image.

Prizes

• 1 night studio room with breakfast for 2 at The Rosseau, A JW Marriott Resort &Spa
• Round of golf for 2 with cart at Clevelands House
• One day surf and turf flex pass at MSR at Wallace Marina
• One day expedition for 2 with Naturalist Robin Tapley

Some photos will be used in promotional materials.  Please sign attached release form.  All entries become the property of Red Leaves.

The summer-themed contest will be launched on the long weekend in May.
Entry forms will be available on-line or at the Marina at Red Leaves.
Winners will be announced Labour Day weekend.
